  • Fidel heads the youths called the Centenary Generation in a Torchlight March commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of the national hero of Cuba, José Martí; thousands of Cubans took part in the march, from the University of Havana stairs to the Fragua Martiana, the former San Lázaro Quarries, where Martí had been sentenced to forced labour as a political prisoner under the Spanish colonial rule.
