Cuban youth will reissue in all provinces of the country the traditional March of the Torches to honor the National Hero José Martí, on the 170th anniversary of his birth.

In statements to Juventud Rebelde newspaper, the president of the Federation of University Students (FEU) Emilio Morejon explained that the parade will be held from the University of Havana to the Martí Forge, under the slogan "His torch, my strength".

According to Morejón, the activity will also be a tribute to the historical leader Fidel Castro, to the “pioneer generation” of the Revolution, and a “call to have Martí as a guide for the rebel action of the youth.”

The student leader pointed out that the tribute to the National Hero will extend to social networks with a national tweet from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. local time, with the hashtags MartíVive, SuAntorchaMiFuerza, and MartianosHoy.

Delegates of the V International Conference for the Balance of the World which is in session in the capital until January 28, will participate in the march together with Cuban youth.

The first March of the Torches was organized for the midnight of January 27, 1953, to await the centenary of the birth of José Martí then also became an act of protest against the crimes of the dictator Fulgencio Batista and the persecution of young people who sought to change the political course in the archipelago.
