Book about Second in Command in Granma Expedition Presented

Anecdotes, testimonies and images about the life of Cuban patriot Juan Manuel Marquez, second in command in the Yacht Granma expedition, are included in the book ''En Cada Latido del Combate'' (In Every Beat of the Combat), presented today in this capital.

In the 60th anniversary of his assassination, the text by Cuban journalist Alba Marquez does not present an exact biography of the deeds by the hero, but memories and reminiscences kept in the deepest side of the heart of his daughter.

Cuban acknowledged historian Pedro Pablo Rodriguez, author of the prologue, in the work, the writer presents her idea of the image of the man who was deputy and right-hand man to the leader of the Rebel Army, Fidel Castro, before, during and after the trip on board of the Yacht Granma from Mexico to Cuba, from November to December, 1956.

'This a necessary book, especially for the current and future generations, for them to know about the life and work by the greart figures that have made a mark in the history of our country,' said Rodriguez during the presentation of the book at the Sate Council Office for Historic Affairs.

In Rodriguez' opinion, the book was not the result of thorough historic research that is trying to cover the whole man. It is for him, 'a look, from filial love, at a strict, noble man, who remained faithful to his principles and ideals, follower of Jose Marti in his heart, thinking and actions.'
