Brazilian students urge government to condemn US blockade on Cuba

Brazilian students submitted an official letter to the country´s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in order to raise awareness and urge the Brazilian government to strongly condemn the US blockade against Cuba.

Represented by the National Students Union (UNE) and the Brazilian Secondary Students Union (UBES), the students intend to raise government awareness of the US blockade imposed on Cuba.

'It is a shame for our people that present Brazilian government supports this violent, unilateral US policy on Cuba,' the letter read.

Despite the blockade, whose effects are being more sensitive during the current Covid-19 pandemic, 'Cuba is managing to keep the spread of the coronavirus under control, mainly by using national biotechnological products'.

UNE and UBES demand the government to join the international clamor and condemn at the UN General Assembly the application of sanctions and coercive economic measures against Cuba.

'Brazil cannot remain isolated from the world regarding key foreign policy issues, and even more so it cannot support pressure and economic sanctions rejected by the vast majority of governments represented at the UN,' the document said.

¨Cuba is an example and reference in the field of education.¨

For such a reason, we call for collaboration to help end the unjust economic, commercial and financial US blockade against the Cuban people.
