Cuban Head of Government thanks UN for support against U.S. blockade

Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz on Thursday thanked the international community for its support at the United Nations against the blockade imposed by the United States on the island for more than 60 years.

Through his Twitter account, the head of government pointed out that for "the 30th time the international community has recognized that the U.S. blockade must cease".

The Cuban nation will not desist "in the fight against this brutal policy," the head of state stressed.

On Thursday, Cuba submitted for consideration by the UN General Assembly (UNGA) the resolution on the need to put an end to the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States.

The Cuban draft received overwhelming support with the vote of 185 nations (out of 193) in favor of a Cuba free from the pressures of the blockade, with only two against (the United States and Israel) and an equal number of abstentions (Brazil and Ukraine).

Speaking in the debate that preceded the vote, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez affirmed that more than 80 percent of the population of our country was born under the blockade.
