G-77+China praises Fidel Castro

The Group-77+China praised today at the U.N. Fidel Castro as an extraordinary Statesman at a tribute at the General Assembly to the late Cuban revolutionary leader.
 
At the special event, the Thai Ambassador Virachi Plasai extolled on behalf of the group that brings together 134 of the 193 member States of the U.N. the world dimension and legacy of Fidel Castro, who passed away on November 25 at the age of 90.
 
He was extraordinary -Ambassador Plasai stressed- for who he was, for what he defended; he was extraordinary for what he fought for during all his life; he was extraordinary for what he represents no only for his people, but for all the international community, specially for the nations of the South. He was extraordinary for what he left in the heart and mind of the people.
 
In his speech, the diplomat highlighted the social achievements in Cuba under the leadership of Fidel Castro in the fields of health, education and assistance to the most vulnerable sections of society.
 
He mentioned that Cuba today has the world's highest literacy indicator, and in 2015 was praised as the first nation in the planet to eradicate the transmission of HIV and syphilis from mother to child.
 
It was Fidel Castro who offered Havana as the venue for the 1st Summit of the G-77 in which he warned over the existing inequalities in the world, despite the scientific and technological potential developed, a speech that is valid today, the Thai Ambassador concluded.
