Sri Lankan graduates in Cuba demand end to US blockade

The Sri Lankan Graduates Association in Cuba on Saturday demanded that the United States government lift the unjust and criminal economic blockade imposed on the Cuban people for more than 50 years.

Cuba provides free education to thousands of foreign students who come from very poor countries, without expectations of any benefit in return, said the group in a declaration, which described the long US blockade against Cuba as a cruel and inhumane policy.

As graduates in Cuba, we had the privilege of studying in a country that treats everyone equally, a former Sri Lankan students said in the statement, to which Prensa Latina had access.

The Sri Lankan Graduates Association in Cuba extended its solidarity to Cuban families due to the current situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Despite the blockade, Cuba is an example of solidarity for the world. Cuba offers medical care by providing medicines and sending medical personnel to several countries around the world to support the fight against the novel coronavirus.
