Students of Cuban Literacy Program Graduated in Mexico

A graduation of 356 people who lerned to read and write with the Cuban literacy program called Yes, I can, was held today in the municipality of Chimalhuacan, in the State of Mexico.

During the eight years of the program in this town, 12,953 people have been taught to read and write and the illiteracy rate was reduced from 5.6 percent to 1.7.

Chimalhuacan was declared illiteracy-free municipality in 2009, as indicators of Unesco.

In order to continue this effort, the next stage of this work will begin on April 22.

In the graduation ceremony, the mayor, Telésforo Garcia, anticipated that they will also implement the program Yes, I can continue, with the aim that all graduates continue their studies.

Mercedes Montalván, Cuban collaboration coordinator, José Ron, a representative of the Cuban Embassy, and other local government managers and teachers also participated in the ceremony.
