UK has 43 nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize for Cuban doctors

The campaign in favor of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize for Cuba's Henry Reeve Medical Contingent closed with 43 nominations from British parliamentarians and scholars, one of its promoters in the United Kingdom informed on Wednesday.

'We are trying to do our best because Cuba deserves no less by giving us this wonderful example of internationalism and humanity during this world crisis, Rob Miller, director of the organization that groups British solidarity with Cuba, told Prensa Latina.

According to Miller, the last renowned figures to formalize their proposals to the Norwegian Nobel Committee before the January 31 deadline were legislators Diane Abbott and Chris Stephens, from the Labour Party and the Scottish National Party, respectively, and academics Sara Chandler, Tim Shallice and Rosalyn George.

In all cases, the proponents claimed that they were calling for recognition of Cuban healthcare professionals for the humanitarian and selfless assistance provided to dozens of countries during the Covid-19 pandemic.

'I firmly believe that such cross-border cooperation is absolutely necessary at this time and the only way the world can emerge from the current crisis,' Abbott assured.

Meanwhile, his Scottish colleague in Parliament pointed out that in addition to saving thousands of lives, the Henry Reeve Medical Contingent set an exemplary model of international community.

Attorney Chandler noted that, like the pandemic, the Cuban doctors do not recognize borders, and the world should recognize their extraordinary voluntary contribution.
