The United Nations members paid tribute to the recently deceased leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

The President of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly, Peter Thomson, requested a minute of silence before the beginning of the meeting in order to remember Fidel, who died on Friday aged 90.

Thomson once more conveyed his condolences to the Cuban people and government, particularly to President Raul Castro.

Thomson also highlighted the legacy of the Cuban leader, after his tireless struggle for equity in the international arena and his support to the progress of developing countries.
