Uruguayan lawmakers recognize Cuban medical collaboration

Uruguayan lawmakers recognized on Wednesday with gratitude thousands of members of Cuba's internationalist medical missions, in a joint statement on occasion of the 15th anniversary of the 'Henry Reeve' Brigade.

Senators Charles Carrera, Enrique Rubio and Jose Carlos Mahia and lawmakers Gerardo Nuñez and Daniel Caggiani, from the Broad Front (Frente Amplio), recalled the first contingent deployed in Algeria in 1963, and the founding of the 'Henry Reeve' Brigade by then President Fidel Castro.

'We also make this recognition because despite the economic sanctions, harassment and the US blockade, Cuba did not hesitate to bring solidarity anywhere globally,' the Uruguayan parliamentarians said.

This solidarity was once again demonstrated in the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic. Hundreds of Cuban health professionals have been present in nations such as Jamaica and Italy, providing assistance to those who need it.
