Voices of solidarity for Cuba in El Salvador

Solidarity with Cuba have been expressed in El Salvador, where several voices from politics and civil society demand an end of the US blockade against Cuba.

In fact, the Cuban medical aid to several nations affected by the Covid-19 pandemic strengthens the call by many to end a widely rejected policy worldwide.

The Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN), as well as its representation in the Legislative Assembly and the solidarity movements, declared themselves to be against the US blockade imposed on Cuba since 1962.

These messages are in tune with United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres call to lift the economic US sanctions on different nations including Cuba, in order to help them fight the pandemic.

'Now that the fight against the coronavirus must unite us to save lives, this aberrant blockade is the main drawback for Cuba to receive medical supplies, technology and food,' the Front party said. In turn, the FMLN Secretariat for International Relations pointed out on social networks that these are times of solidarity among peoples, and highlighted Cuba's solidarity with its medical brigades. The FMLN stated that Cuba 'has always been in the frontline to face situations that have been affecting the international community,' and appreciated its current contribution to fight Covid-19.
