“Peace in Colombia” by Fidel Castro Launched in Venezuela Caracas, Nov 15 (acn) The book "La Paz en Colombia" (Peace in Colombia) written by the leader of the Cuban revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, was presented in Venezuela November 14 during the 4th International Book Fair of this South American country.
The Cuban Culture Minister Abel Prieto, who attended the presentation ceremony, read and commented on a few passages of the book that reveals facts about the Cuban efforts to contribute to the peace in Colombia.
Prieto mentioned Fidel Castro’s words as saying that even if it is hard; one can never give up working for peace.
The book makes it very clear that Cuba had nothing to do with the creation of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), nor with the National Liberation Army (ELN) of that country, as the US administration had stated, said Jorge Arbesu deputy head of the foreign relations department of the Cuban Communist Party. Cuba did not provide weapons or financial aid to any of those organizations, he explained before an audience of intellectuals, Cuban and Venezuelan officials and guests from different countries participating in the Fair.
Arbesu commented on the present-day relations between Cuba and Colombia and highlighted Cuban efforts to help in the liberation of prisoners held by Colombian organizations, and also the negotiation process to reach peace in that South American country.
He mentioned the participation of the Cuban ambassador in Caracas, German Sanchez Otero, who was at the ceremony, in the rescue of the child Emmanuel held by FARC.
In addition, journalist and researcher Katiuska Blanco said the book reveals Fidel Castro’s will for peace and life. Each page in the book shows the ethical and humanitarian nature of Fidel and the Revolution, she said.
Among the Venezuelan government officials at the ceremony were the ministers of culture and foreign relations Hector Soto and Nicolas Maduro.
