Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez underscored the role played by the Cuban Revolution in the support of ongoing transformations in Latin America and he announced his people’s determination to defend the Caribbean nation.
We are determined to fight in defense of Cuba until death if necessary, said Hugo Chavez after laying a wreath at the tomb of Latin American Independence Hero Simon Bolivar on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution.
During a ceremony for the occasion in Caracas, Chavez said that the Cuban flag will keep hoisted in the site that treasures the remains of Bolivar, along with the flags of Colombia, Bolivia, Panama, Peru and Venezuela.
Cuba’s National Hero Jose Marti and Simon Bolivar are now closer than ever before, since they still have much to do, said Chavez after stressing that Cuba continues to lead the rest of Latin American nations.
During the ceremony, Cuban Revolution Commander Ramiro Valdes said that the Cuban people consider themselves children of Bolivar’s sword, since the whole region is also a result of the same struggle, sacrifice and setbacks and of the hope for Venezuela’s revolutionary triumph.
Ramiro Valdes, also Cuban Minister of Information Technologies and Communications, said that celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution in Caracas entails great significance since, “here is the cradle of the strongest Latin American Unity,” he pointed out.
