Cuban President Raul Castro arrived on Tuesday in the Egyptian resort of Sharm El-Sheikh to participate in the 15th Summit of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM).
Raul and his accompanying delegation arrived at the airport of Sharm El-Sheikh, in the Sinai Peninsula, after concluding a two-day working visit to Algeria.
The Cuban delegation is made up of the members of the Political Bureau of Cuba’s Communist Party Ramiro Valdes Menendez, who is also Information Technology and Communications Minister, and Army Corps General Leopoldo Cintra Frias. It also includes Ricardo Cabrisas, Vice-President of the Council of Ministers.
Bruno Rodriguez, Cuba’s Foreign Affairs Minister, currently at NAM’s Ministerial Meeting, is to join the delegation today.
Cuba held the pro-tempore chairmanship of the organization since the 14th NAM Summit held in Havana in 2006. During this week’s summit in Egypt, Raul Castro will hand over the temporary presidency of the bloc
to the Egyptian head of state, Hosni Mubarak.
The NAM heads of state and government will meet on Wednesday and Thursday.
