The economic, trade and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba hinders successful execution of the plans to build, preserve and restore houses in this Caribbean country.
Official figures revealed that from April, 2008 to March, 2009, this significantly important sector to the Cuban population lost $47.2 million, due to the US blockade.
These losses had a negative bearing on fulfilling the housing construction programs planned to recover from the damage caused by three hurricanes in 2008.
With great world rejection, the siege also hinders imports of materials, tools, and equipment, said Cuba in its most recent report to the UN General Assembly on the need to put an end to the blockade.
In the mentioned period, IMECO Company, which imports housing construction materials, suffered damage estimated at $2.3 million, the document said.
The Main reason for that damage was the difference of prices, because the island had to buy those products in markets that are geographically distant.
MATCO Company is facing a similar situation, because it id forced to do 80 percent of its trade businesses with Europe and Asia, something that delays the operations.
The average execution time for that entity is 11 months now, but if Cuba had the possibility to operate in the US market, the space would be reduced to less than half the current time, said the mentioned text.
