Cuba celebrated the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the island and the Holy See in the presence of the Vatican's foreign minister, Archbishop Dominique Mamberti.
Esteban Lazo, vice president of the Cuban Council of State; Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez; and Archbishop Giovanni Angelo Pecciu, Apostolic Nuncio in Cuba, attended a gala on Thursday at the Minor Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi, in Old Havana.
Others present at the concert included Cardinal Jaime Ortega, archbishop of Havana; Cuban officials; members of the accredited diplomatic staff, and national cultural figures.
Mamberti is carrying out an official and pastoral visit to the island until Sunday.
During his first day in this capital, the visitor gave a news conference together with the Cuban foreign minister. He said his visit will foster the good relations between Cuba and the Holy See.
The Vatican's foreign minister stated that his agenda was prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the local church, and includes official visits to institutions, and attending the 10th Catholic Social Week.
