He is tried along with student leader Enrique Benavides in the Emergency Court of Las Villas for his participation in the students protest in Cienfuegos at the end of November. He assumes his own defense, in which he makes a passionate denunciation of the corruption of the Prio’s regime, as well as the lack of constitutional guarantees, the assault of labor unions by gang members and other ills afflicting the country. They are acquitted of all charges.
