The Angolan press stresses today the release of Fernando Gonzalez, one of the Cuban antiterrorist fighters unjustly condemned in the United States.
The Journal do Angola newspaper states that Gonzalez, one of Cuban patriots internationally known as The Five, completed a more than 15-year sentence and was the second of the group in returning to his homeland, where he was received by President Raul Castro.
Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez were arrested in 1998 in the United States, when monitoring terrorist actions by groups based in Florida.
Until today, only Rene and Fernando are in Havana, after completing their prison sentence.
The Journal reports on the welcoming the Cuban people gave Fernando Gonzalez, who promised to continue the struggle for the release of his other three compatriots still in prison.
The National Radio station of Angola also informed in its news program about the arrival to the Caribbean island of the Hero of the Republic of Cuba, and the emotional welcoming Gonzalez received from leaders, relatives, and the people in general.
During an interview with that radio station, Angolan artist Antonio Tomas Ana (Etona), president of the National Pro-Liberation Committee of the Five, stated that Fernando's release from prison and return to his country is a reason of happiness, however, three of them are still serving an unjust sentence in the northern nation.
Havana ambassador to Luanda, Gisela Garcia, told National Radio station that Cuba is celebrating because Fernando Gonzalez arrived in the homeland.
