Vietnam Begins Campaign to Help Cuba

The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) began on Tuesday a national campaign to help the Cuban people, now in a process of recovery from the damage caused by hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
By way of its Central Committee’s Commission of Mass Mobilization, the CPV urged citizens, groups, and branches of Vietnamese official entities and social organizations to make donations for the Cuban population, seriously hit by the two hurricanes.
The appeal expresses that Cuba currently needs aid and support, and that the Vietnamese should show their feelings and responsibility with contributions that, it stresses, should be spontaneous, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.
A similar call was made by the Red Cross in that nation, which will collect all the contributions to send them immediately to Havana at the end of the campaign, slated to conclude at the end of October.
The Solidarity-with-Cuba movement is growing increasingly in Vietnam, adds the news agency.
A ceremony to deliver goods worth 120,000 USD for the victims of hurricanes Gustav and Ike in Cuba took place on Monday in Ho Chi Minh City, a donation made by the Thai Binh Commerce and Investment Company and other Vietnamese entities.
Moreover, the Popular Committee (government) of that southern city delivered 100,000 USD as another expression of solidarity with the Cubans.
