Relatives of the five Cuban anti-terrorism fighters unjustly imprisoned in the United States declared themselves, in Brussels, Belgium, in favor of spreading throughout the world the truth about the case of The Five even more.
Olga Salanueva, the wife of Rene Gonzalez –one of The Five, as they’re known internationally- explained that after 10 years of imprisonment, it’s “a process continually manipulated and the right of their loved
ones to visit them has been delayed or denied, so that our paths lead us toward solidarity.”
In an interview with the Prensa Latina news agency, Olga Salanueva, declared ineligible by the US authorities and therefore stopped from seeing her husband Rene, declared that what has happened is simply depressing.
In this regard, she commented that, in her case, she can resign herself to waiting another five years until Rene has served his time, “but Adriana Perez, the wife of Gerardo Hernandez (with two life mprisonments), have been repeatedly denied visas to enter US territory, thus denying her right to visit her husband,” she stressed.
Salanueva and Pérez are currently touring Europe to obtain support concerning the situation of The Five.
Rene and Gerardo, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero -The Five- are serving long and unfair sentences in US prisons for the only crime of warning Cuba of terrorist actions planned on US territory to destabilize the island.
Salanueva explained: “at the beginning we had a lot of faith in the trial, which was won by the defense, but results were the opposite, due to Washington’s malice against our country and particularly against The
Five.”
Salanueva and Adriana Perez both highlighted that international solidarity has gained ground, and that the participation of intellectuals, religious people, and representatives from non-governmental organizations and different institutions, as well as parliamentarians, has been constant.
