The President of the Cuban Parliament Ricardo Alarcón denounced on Tuesday that the US administration is promoting illegality and social indiscipline in Cuba, by way of its Helms-Burton Law.
Our nation is the only one in which the most powerful country in the world insists on fomenting dissolution, vice, and social disobedience, warned Alarcón during a meeting of the District Attorney's Office and the Popular Supreme Court, held in Havana's Astral Movie Theatre.
He stressed that Socialism cannot coexist with these immoralities which -although not comparable in their magnitude to those prevailing in the world- have to be eradicated; because the continuity of a project that dates back to the origins of the Cuban nation depends on it.
He reiterated his denunciation of the US administration's prevarications on the five Cubans incarcerated in that country, who were condemned to harsh sentences for monitoring counterrevolutionary organizations based in South Florida with the approval of US authorities.
He insisted on the arbitrariness of the trial against Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino and Rene Gonzalez, whose requests for reconsidering their case the Court of Appeals of Atlanta 's 11th Circuit denied in September.
On Tuesday, Cuban judges and district attorneys celebrated the 35th anniversary of the founding of the District Attorney's Office and the Popular Supreme Court, a date that coincided with the 132nd anniversary of the birth of Major General Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz, a jurist and one of the leaders of Cuba's wars of independence.
