Cuba will face current challenges with serenity and firmness, said President Raul Castro, during the 7th Plenary Session of Cuba´s Communist Party Central Committee.
During the session, held July 29, Raul Castro who is the Second Secretary of the Central Committee said that positive results reached in the defense of the country reflect the good work of all citizens and constitute a significant experience, Granma and Juventud newspapers report on Friday.
However, said Raul, the economic sector has not achieved similar solid results as in the defense area; he ratified that the Revolution is determined to face the serious and negative effects of the complex world economic situation and those stemming from our own inefficiencies, he pointed out.
The Cuban President noted the need to strengthen the Communist Party, given its role in this crucial battle and that every accord reached must be controlled. He also alerted on the importance that every citizen understands unpleasant and difficult measures that simply can not be postponed.
The people must get over the difficulties, said Raul and he added that as the people have been informed on the current realities, they have better understood them and participate in a conscious manner in finding solutions to the problems.
Raul Castro also referred to ongoing efforts aimed at producing food in the face of increasing prices at the world market, and at achieving the capacity to face even more complex situations. It is necessary to keep waging a simultaneous battle in the political, economic and defensive areas, he pointed out.
During the session, participants agreed to put off the 6th Congress of Cuba´s Communist Party until all the people and Communist Party members carry out a deep analysis of the current situation and prospects of the country.
