Cuba ratified its historic unchangeable stance in favor of the Middle East peoples' right to hold out against the Israeli occupation, it was reported on Thursday.
During the opening of the first regional meeting of solidarity with the island, taking place at the Sahara tourism-union resort, delegates from Cuba and from Arab social and political organizations showed mutual signs of support and friendship.
President of the Syria-Cuba Friendship Association Osama Adi stressed the importance of the meeting's revolutionary character, due to the presence of members from the Syrian, Lebanese, and Palestinian resistance, along with Cuban representatives.
Adi praised the strong friendship ties between Havana and Damascus, as well as the revolutionary unity and brotherhood between Cubans and Arabs, "Iranians included," in the fight against imperialist hegemony and aggression.
The also member of the ruling Baas Party's Regional Committee expressed willingness to take relations with Cuba to "the highest level in all spheres."
Meanwhile, Kenia Serrano, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), thanked for the signs of support, and affirmed "we will defend the peoples' right to fight against foreign occupation."
Serrano reiterated support for the creation of an independent Palestinian State with capital in East Jerusalem, and for the return of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians displaced by Israel.
The ICAP president recalled that the Cuban government broke diplomatic relations with Israel in 1973, as protest for outrages against Palestinians, and affirmed "they will not be resumed until those aggressions end."
She also expressed her conviction that the multiple signs of solidarity with Cuba will benefit the event, to conclude Friday with a unanimous condemnation of the US economic blockade on the island.
The meeting is also expected to demand the release of the five Cuban anti-terrorists unfairly imprisoned in the United States.
