Russia Honors Raul Roa
The Latin American Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences honored former Cuban Foreign Minister Raul Roa on his 105th birthday, diplomatic sources stated on Thursday. Roa was an example of revolutionary, because he put up the name and dignity of the Cuban Revolution, Cuban ambassador to Russia Juan Valdes said during the meeting.

The Cuban diplomat recalled Roa's words at the UN headquarter 51 years ago on a similar date, at a time when his people responded to a U.S.-sponsored mercenary invasion on Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs), in central Cuba.
Valdes said that 51 years after that historic action, a new diplomatic Giron has been dealt to the United States, this time in the framework of the recent Summit of the Americas.
Latin American academics, diplomats and officials, including Andrei Guzkov, assistant director of the Latin American Department at the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, attended the ceremony.
