Cuban Athletes in Beijing Receive Message from Fidel Castro
A postcard and a message in Fidel Castro´s own hand were given to 71 Cuban athletes in Beijing, who had not received the message before for having been training in other countries or participating in other competitions.

A postcard and a message in Fidel Castro´s own hand were given to 71 Cuban athletes in Beijing, who had not received the message before for having been training in other countries or participating in other competitions.
In a solemn act in front of the building hosting the Cuban delegation in the Olympic villa, vice-president of the Cuban Council of Ministers Jose Ramon Fernandez said he brought an exceptional message from Fidel, who has been a permanent promoter of the development of sports in Cuba and with his internationalist spirit has also helped develop sports in other nations.
Few hours before the inauguration of the Beijing 2008 29th Olympic Games, Jose Ramon Fernandez told the athletes that Fidel called on them, with respect and recognition, to fight with patriotism and honor in defense of the Cuban Flag.
“You have to overcome the big distance and the change of hours, forget about the public and the scenario, just concentrate yourself and do what you know how to do so well,” the message read sent by the Cuban Revolution leader. That same message was also given to the athletes that departed Cuba for China in early hours last July 26.
Present in the rally were the President of the Cuban Sports, Physical Education and Recreation Institute Christian Jimenez and the Cuban ambassador to Beijing Carlos Miguel Pereira.
