First Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes arrived in Vietnam today afternoon to participate in the activities for the 45th anniversary of Fidel Castro''s first visit to this country.
The member of the Political Bureau of the Cuban Communist Party also plans to meet with the main Vietnamese leaders in order to give a new impetus to the political, commercial and cooperation relations between both States.
One of his first activities on Thursday will be to pay tribute to the leader of Vietnam's independence, Ho Chi Minh, at the mausoleum that keeps his remains in this capital.
He will hold official talks with Truong Hoa Binh, permanent deputy prime minister and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Vietnam (PCV).
He will also participate in courtesy meetings, separately, with Nguyen Phu Trong, general secretary of the PCV; President Tran Dai Quang; Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc; and the President of the National Assembly, Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan.
Valdes will travel on Friday to Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces, visited by the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution in September 1973, although they were still under the threat of American bombers.
The opening of a square named after Fidel Castro in Dong Ha, capital of Quang Tri, will be one of the main activities with which Vietnam will commemorate the visit of the Cuban leader 45 years ago.
A bronze bust of whoever was a fervent contributor and admirer of the Vietnamese nation's feat for independence and reunification, will be unveiled at the esplanade.
The first Cuban vice president will also participate at an event at Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital in Dong Hoi, capital of Quang Binh, built and equipped by Cuba shortly after Fidel's visit.
Fidel Castro was the first and only political leader who during the times of the war crossed the border between the northern and southern portions of the country, divided by the 17th Parallel.
The Cuban representation previously visited China and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
