Cuba's ambassador to Nicaragua, Luis Hernandez, said the US blockade against his country will be condemned once again by the ternational community at the United Nations on Wednesday.
In his statements to La Nueva RadioYa radio station, the diplomat expressed his certainty that once more that US policy will be rejected, reports the Granma newspaper on its website.
Hernandez recalled that the resolution The Need for Putting an End to the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade Imposed on Cuba by the United States will be voted at the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, for the 17th year in a row.
He stressed that on the previous 16 occasions, Cuba received the support of the overwhelming majority of nations. In 2007, 184 out of the 192 UN member nations voted in favor of the lifting of the blockade, unilaterally imposed by Washington in 1962.
In his statements to the local radio station, the ambassador said that the more than four decades of economic, financial, and commercial blockade have cost more than 93 billion dollars in losses to his country.
The diplomat also denounced the unjust imprisonment Cubans Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramón Labanino, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez have been suffering in the US over the last 10 years.
The Five, as they're internationally known, were given extremely long sentences for fighting against the terrorism promoted by Florida-based anti-Cuba groups.
