The United Nations General Assembly will assess on Wednesday the aid that the international community must give to Chile so that it can face the catastrophe caused by the earthquake that took place 11 days ago.
The special UN meeting will learn a report by its Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon, who just made a 2-day visit to Chile.
During his journey, the Secretary General visited those places in Santiago de Chile and Concepcion cities the earthquake of 8.8 degrees of intensity affected the most.
After he returned to the UN headquarters based in New York, Ban Ki-Moon announced on Tuesday that he agreed the creation of a workgroup that will specify the details and the amount of assistance the country needs with Chile's President elect Sebastian Piñera.
Piñera will assume his presidential post on Thursday after he won the runoffs that took place on January.
According to the UN Secretary General, the main needs after the quake lie in housing, public health, field hospitals, generators and the communications.
During his stay in Chile, Ban Ki-Moon announced the handing over of ten million dollars from the emergency fund of the organization to support the recovery efforts of the Chileans.
The earthquake affected from Valparaiso harbour to Concepcion, the second main city of the country located 310.6 miles south of the capital.
Recent official data confirmed the death of 497 people identified up to this moment.
