Cuba solidarity groups will carry out a series of activities in the United States and Canada, as part of the global campaign for the immediate and unconditional release of the five antiterrorist fighters of the Caribbean island convicted in Miami on September 12, 1998.

The International Committee to Free the Five, as Gerardo Hernandez, Rene Gonzalez, Ramon Labañino, Fernando Gonzalez and Antonio Guerrero are universally known, stated yesterday that many activists visited seven offices in the U.S. Congress, and discussed with the staff of four legislators.

Those meetings were aimed at suing President Barack Obama to use his powers under the U.S. Constitution and allow those men return to their homeland.

Four of them are currently serving severe sentences, for monitoring violent groups based in Miami.

Menwhile, Rene was released on October 7, 2011, and after completing 13 years in prison, he is now serving an additional punishment for three years under supervised release in that U.S. city, home of the Cuban extreme right.

According to the Committee, the Venezuelan embassy in this capital will host a concert tomorrow, to commemorate the 14th anniversary of the imprisonment of the Cuban Five, with the performance of trva singer Vicente Feliu and musician Alejandro Valdes.

On Friday, there will be a solidarity evening at the Festival Center in Washington DC, where Puerto Rican independence fighter Rafael Cancel Miranda Keynote and lawyer Jose Pertierra will be the main speakers. U.S. activists Tom Hayden, Liz Derias, and Michele Tingling will also participate.

Feliu and Valdes will perform on Saturday, September 15, at the Health Care Workers East in New York, and on Thursday, September 20, at the Brava Theater in San Francisco.

The international program also includes marches in front of the U.S. embassies, exhibitions, concerts, presentations of books, documentaries and political acts.
