The University of Oriente, the second founded in Cuba, held its sixty graduation, with 3,732 new professionals, who will contribute to the economic and social development of this eastern province.

Leader of the expansion of higher education in eastern Cuba, the institution also trained some 25 foreign students of the Caribbean, Latin America, and Africa in the last five courses.

Dr. Marta Mesa, rector of the higher education center, highlighted the symbolism of this 60 graduation in the same place where, on July 26, 1953, young revolutionaries led by Fidel Castro attacked the Moncada Garrison and began the final stage in the liberating campaigns.

Founded in 1947, the University of Oriente has 35 careers in 11 faculties, through the modalities of daytime, distance courses, and those for workers at the Antonio Maceo, Julio Antonio Mella, and Frank País universities.
