Only the lifting of the U.S. blockade against Cuba would end the Cold War in the Caribbean, said ex President Leonel fernandez in an article reported as a press release by the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).
The PLD leader said that the recent announcement made by Presidents Barack Obama (United States) and Raul Castro (Cuba) of an agreement to resume diplomatic relations between their countries, suspended since 1961, the Cold War finally seems to be approaching its end in the Caribbean region.
The text quoted in the PLD communique, published by Fernandez in his column in Listin Diario newspaper, added that to complete the resumption of relations between Cuba and the United States the only thing that remains to be done is lifting the U.S. blockade affecting the Cuban people for 53 years.
"Only when that happens one would really say that Cold War is over in the Caribbean," said the president of the PLD and of the Global Democracy and Development Foundation in his article entitled The end of Cold War? Quoted by the PLD Communication Department.
