The Mexican poet Julio Moguel said that Cuba is the nation''s greatest contributions to Latin American culture in 1959 after the triumph of the Revolution led by Fidel Castro.
The Caribbean country excels not only for its literary, artistic or scientific production, but for its extraordinary efforts to create a strong and enduring cultural link between the Spanish-speaking countries in the continent, said the also director of the Acapulco 2016 International Book Fair.
Moguel recalled authors like Julio Cortazar, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Eliseo Diego, Alejo Carpentier, Virgilio Pinera, Jose Lezama or Nicolas Guillen. During the International Book Fair, tribute will be paid to Nicolas Guillen during the last week of this month.
'Cuba will not participate in the Acapulco Book Fair because it is fashionable these days: we have very solid literary, artistic and political arguments that support our decision of extending the invitation to Cuba', Moguel argued.
Moguel, born in 1950, writes for Mexican newspapers. He is as well a literary essayist and translator.
His professional work is mainly dedicated to the study of the poetic work by the French philosopher and poet Paul Valery.
Moguel also conducts research about Juan Rulfo, Garcia Marquez, Lewis Carroll, Jorge Luis Borges and Cuba's National Poet Nicolas Guillen.
