Ciudadano TV channel has devoted one of its spaces to the Cuban historical leader, Fidel Castro, for whom the people and government of this South American country have maintained signs of affection and sorrow after his death.
The program 'Ecuador No Para' has invited Havana ambassador to Quito, Rafael Dausa, to talk about the work and life of the distinguished Cuban revolutionary, as well as his legacy to the world.
After beginning the program with images of the leader, the first issues were dedicated to Fidel Castro's beginnings in the revolutionary feat that concluded with the January 1959 victory.
Dausa talked about the measures implemented by the new government from the nationalizations of foreign companies, the delivery of land to peasants and programs to improve living conditions of all citizens.
He also stressed that since the triumph of the Revolution, the U.S. government has begun to plan different actions against Cuba until formalizing the establishment of the economic, financial and commercial blockade soon after.
'The blockade has not been more than an economic war against the nation,' the diplomat said and recalled how in all those episodes, Fidel Castro's presence has played an extremely important role, to unmask U.S. interests.
'The blockade, if we want to see it in terms of cost for the economy, has meant more than $750 billion USD, but more than that, it has meant deaths and a single human life that is lost, is worth more than the riches of this world,' Dausa emphaised.
About Cuba's resistance to Washington's unilateral measures, he said: 'the people know that the revolution has meant high levels of schooling, we all have what is necessary to live and day-to-day struggle for more needs is covered, but above all, we know that it is better to live in freedom than to live again under the chains of imperialism.'
The ambassador thanked for the signs of affection and sorrow of the Ecuadorian people, who signed the book of condolences opened in many regions of the country, and the words by President, Rafael Correa, who attended the funeral rites to the Cuban leader in Havana.
