“The future of our homeland must by necessity be a future of men of science, it must be a future of thinking men, because that is precisely what we are sowing the most;[…]”

"We will know how to resist any aggression, but that we will know how to overcome any aggression, and that again we would have no other dilemma than that with which we began the revolutionary struggle: that of freedom or death".

“And not only shall we know how to stand up to any aggression; we shall know how to triumph over any aggression; and we shall have no choice  other than the one with which we started our revolutionary struggle: freedom  or death.  But now, freedom means something else:  freedom  means homeland.  And our choice shall be: Homeland or Death.”
“…work, organize and put into action the spirit of creation, the enthusiasm of Cuban women, so that Cuban women, in this stage of the revolutions, will see to the disappearance of the last shred of discrimination;  and so that Cuban women, because of their virtues and merits, will take the place corresponding them in the country’s history.”
“Cubans haven’t wanted anything other than that the determinations guiding their conduct should be theirs; that theirs and theirs alone should be the lone star that flutters in our homeland!  That the laws should be theirs; that their natural wealth should be theirs; that their democratic and revolutionary institutions should be theirs.”

"This is the Revolution, always looking for the best of the country, and with the best of the country preparing the best future for all Cubans. And so we go marching on with what we have. What we have is not perfect, we have received the inheritance of the past, an inheritance, in many ways negative, from the past".

“It’s the duty of the people, it’s the duty of the Revolution, it’s the duty of the homeland, to make way for intelligence, to open chances for intelligence, to make way for vocation, to make way for virtue and merit!”.

“We are fighting in the defence of the sacred Homeland and the Revolution, against the mercenary attack organized by the imperialist government of the United States.”
“The strength of this Revolution, the strength of this revolutionary army was built upon the sacrifice of many comrades, was built upon the lives of those who died defending this cause. Thanks to those brave men, thanks to those men that sacrificed themselves, thanks to those who were willing to sacrifice themselves, thanks to the brave men who, whether they died or not, fought with determination, we have been able to create this force that is now the defending force of the homeland, that is now the shield of the Revolution, the shield of the working class, the shield of our peasants, the shield of our rights, the shield of our achievements.”

“If behind the free flag, if behind the redeeming Revolution there were not a firm and heroic people like this one, the homeland would neither be free nor the flag would be sovereign, nor would the Revolution march forward with the unwavering firmness with which it marches.”.

“Cuba would not be where it is today, nor would our homeland occupy the place it does today in the minds of the other peoples of the world, if behind the homeland, if behind the sovereign flag of the homeland, if this people were not behind the Revolution, if this people were not behind the Revolution.”

“The peoples think that the only thing incompatible with the destiny of Latin America is misery, feudal exploitation, illiteracy, starvation wages, unemployment, the policy of repression against the masses of workers, peasants and students, discrimination against women, blacks, indigenous people and mestizos, the oppression of the oligarchies, the plundering of their wealth by the US monopolies, the moral suffocation of their intellectuals and artists, the ruin of their small producers by foreign competition, the economic underdevelopment, the peoples without roads, without hospitals, without housing, without schools, without industries, the submission to imperialism, the renunciation of national sovereignty and the betrayal of the homeland”.
