  • From prison, he writes a letter to journalist Luis Conte Agüero, in which he courageously denounces the regime's intentions to bribe political prisoners. The letter is published in Bohemia magazine issue of Sunday March 27, 1955 under the title "Letter on amnesty". Fidel's response is clear: "After twenty months we stand firm and whole hearted like the first day. We do not want amnesty at the price of dishonor. We will not suffer such a great humiliations from of ignoble oppressors. We rather spend a thousand years in prison before suffering this humiliation! A thousand years in prison before the sacrifice of decorum! We proclaim it serenely, without fear or hatred. [...] Faced with the embarrassing compromise of today, at the seventy-seven years of the heroic protest, the Titan of Bronze will have in us his spiritual children".
