- At 11am a patriotic ceremony to celebrate Fidel's visit was held in the lobby of the Palm Garden Hotel, New York. About 800 Cuban emigrants gathered to support the revolutionary cause and listened to the inspiring message of Fidel, who for the first time proclaimed to the excited crowd: “I can tell you with full responsibility that in 1956 we will be free or we will be martyrs. This struggle began for us on 10 March. It has lasted almost four years and will end with the last day of the dictatorship or our last day”.
