Actions in solidarity with Cuba continue to take place in several Spanish cities in the wake of hurricanes Gustav and Ike, which caused great losses to the island’s economy and population.

The Salamanca Solidarity-with-Cuba Forum organized a day and a half of cultural activities, starting on Thursday, to collect funds for the Caribbean country, reported Prensa Latina news agency.

Likewise, the State Solidarity-with-Cuba Coordinating Committee and the Cuba-Toledo Solidarity Association repeated a call to increase assistance for Cuba.

The document stresses that Cuba was, in less than 10 days, the victim of two hurricanes that were considered among the most violent in the last 50 years. These storms caused substantial damage to almost half a million houses, as well as to crops, industrial facilities, and telephone and electricity lines.

The appeal recalls that the Cuban people have always offered quick and efficient help to countries hit by catastrophes, but that “Today we’re the ones who should be sensitive and generous,” emphasizes the document.
