ALBA Trade Project in Bolivia

The visit to Bolivia by Venezuelan small and medium businesspeople has opened the doors to a trade Project of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) in those two countries, also involving Ecuador.
In a press conference on Tuesday, Venezuelan Ambassador to La Paz explained that the presence of these businesspeople in workshops, lectures and exhibits will lead to increase Venezuelan export-oriented non-oil offers.
Gonzalez said that the so-called ALBA-South project will include meetings through the year.
Sectors involved include pharmaceutical, food and beverages, packs and chemical products and tourism.
Bolivian Deputy Minister of Interior Trade and Exports, Huascar Ajata, said that trade exchange between La Paz and Caracas increased from $200 million in 2005 to $600 million last year, which shows prospects of this type of exchange.
In remarks to Prensa Latina, he said that only in textile, Bolivian exports to Venezuela represented $35 million last year, $10 million more than sales of manufactured goods to the United States, through tariff preferences, unilaterally suspended in 2008.
Venezuela has meant to Bolivia not only the real possibility of an alternative market, but also a certain increase in bilateral trade.
