The Angolan minister and head of the Presidential Civil House, Manuel da Cruz, and the delegation accompanying him during his official visit to Cuba paid tribute to Cuban war veterans and internationalists here today.
On the occasion of the commemoration of the 122nd anniversary of the beginning of the so-called Necessary War (1868-1878) for the independence of Cuba from Spain, Da Cruz and his delegation laid a wreath on the martyrs of that confrontation and on the internationalists who had fallen in his country, In the mausoleum located in the capital Columbus Cemetery.
'Cuba is an example of solidarity for the world. We know the role that this people played in the process of Angola's independence and in the fight against all those who wanted my country to continue being a colony, so it is an honor for us to pay homage to these heroes, 'Da Cruz told Press Latina.
The distinguished visitor also stressed that the Angolan people will never forget the support given by the island both in the struggle for freedom and later in the establishment of a more just society in their country.
'The Cuban heroes fallen in combat for the peace of Angola have our respect and will be eternally venerated by my compatriots,' he stressed.
The visiting delegation was received at the necropolis by Esther 'Tete' Puebla, General of Brigade of the Association of Combatants of the Cuban Revolution, who gave an overview of the heroic deeds of those martyrs in the different moments of the struggle for emancipation and Sovereignty of the Caribbean island.
The ceremony was also attended by the counterparts of Health and Higher Education, Luis Sambo and Adao Gaspar do Nascimento, respectively, as well as José César Augusto, the country's ambassador to Havana.
