Angolan President Visits Cuban Special Development Zone

Angola''s President Jose Eduardo dos Santos tours today the Special Development Zone (ZEDM) in Mariel, in Artemisa province, some 60 kilometers west of this capital, as part of his official visit to Cuba.
The Angolan statesman expects to visit the container terminal of the port of Mariel, considered as one of the most complex works that has been implemented in Cuba, and expected to turn into the main entry and exit point for the Cuban foreign trade.
ZEDM is one of the Caribbean island's priorities to strengthen foreign investment and foster the development of high-tech projects, replacement of imports, and generate exports and the creation of new jobs, promoted by the new Foreign Investment Law recently approved in the Parliament.
Dos Santos arrived in Havana yesterday afternoon on an official visit, aimed at strengthening ties between both countries.
Upon arrival at the Jose Marti International Airport, the Angolan visitor expressed his interest "in studying all possible ways to further strengthen bilateral relations."
Dos Santos, who was welcomed by Vice President of the Council of Ministers Ricardo Cabrisas, stressed the ties of brotherhood and long tradition of struggle his country and Cuba have shared.
During his stay here, the African statesman will hold talks with President Raul Castro, and pay tribute to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti, among other activities included in his agenda.
