Brazil’s O’Globo newspaper denounced that the US foreign policy against Cuba has affected Brazilian citizens in their own country.
The newspaper featured an article explaining how some Brazilian people have not been allowed to get credits from local banks as a result of the US rules against Cuba, reported Prensa Latina.
As an example, O’Globo mentions a woman, Vania Maria Parreira, who tried to buy a DELL laptop computer on credit and the bank rejected her request after asking a series of questions about trips and especially in knowing whether she planned to visit Cuba.
The woman answered yes, if she had the opportunity, and days later she was told her financing was denied because the United States and Cuba do not have good relations. Parreira filed a complaint at a consumer advocate site and asked for an explanation from the company.
DELL Brazil confirmed to O’Globo that it couldn’t make the sale because of restrictions on the import policies of the US government.
Brazilian attorney Eurivaldo Becerra Neves told the newspaper that the measure is discriminatory and violates Article Five of the Brazilian Constitution.
