The Caribbean Basin countries are assessing today in this capital seven new cooperation projects related to curb climate change effects, further devolop maritime and air connectivity, in order to favor sustainable development.
These initiatives are the core of the analysis in the First Conference on Cooperation, summoned by the Association of Caribbean States (ACS), whose sessions opened this Wednesday at Hotel Habana Libre.
According to Ileana Nunez, Cuban deputy minister of Foreign Trade, three of the initiatives meet common interest in strengthening the capacity to mitigate the effects of the extreme climate variations, while the other four propose to establish links among the Caribbean countries by air and sea.
ACS Secretary-General June Soomer, who participated in the meeting, was in favor of strengthening cooperation among the regional nations and extending the network of international cooperators with development projects.
In her speech in the opening ceremony of the conference, Soomer asserted that this was an opportunity to make progress in the purpose of coordinating strategies for substantial cooperation.
The secretary-general thanked Cuba for the role it played in the association and for organizing this event, which precedes the 22nd Ordinary Meeting of the ACS Minister Council, to be held on March 10. The 5th Ministerial Meeting between the Caribbean Community and Cuba has been scheduled for March 11.
