The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) committed to fight climate change and other phenomena damaging the environment, as it is stated in the Declaration issued by the bloc.
During the closing plenary session of the Second CELAC Summit, all 33 countries participating agreed climate change is one of the most serious global problems today.
Nations showed great concern due to the impacts of climate change in developing countries, particularly in small island states in the region, where it hinders efforts to eradicate poverty and achieve sustainable development.
The Community ratified the need of working together at an international level to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and the adherence to the corresponding provisions of the United Nations.
Regarding the world initiatives for environmental protection, the Declaration of Havana acknowledges the Interactive Dialogue of the General Assembly on Harmony with Nature, celebrated in New York in April 22nd 2013.
Latin American and Caribbean countries pledged to take action for the preservation and fostering of people-government alliances to create strategies to combat climate change.
