Cuban ambassador to China Alberto Blanco explained today the damage caused by the economic blockade imposed by the United Statesto Cuba, for more than 50 years, and described it as genocidal and extraterritorial.
Representatives of the press, friends, and scholars attended the Cuban embassy in Beijing, where the diplomat discussed some aspects of the draft resolution "Necessity of Ending the U.S. Economic, Commercial, and Financial Blockade on Cuba."
During this meeting, Blanco said this is the longest blockade in history, it is an act of economic warfare, and violates the human rights of an entire people.
After mentioning the material damage suffered by his country and the punishment measures imposed by the Washington government against nations and entities dealing with Cuba, the diplomat claimed that the United States is also a haven for terrorists and murderers operating against the Caribbean island.
The blockade is absurd, illegal and morally unsustainable, said Blanco, who said that a strengthening of punitive measures against Cuba has existed in the last five years of the Obama administration.
This document will be debated and voted on the upcoming Oct. 29 in the New York headquarters of the UN General Assembly for the 22nd consecutive year.
In 2012, this resolution received 188 votes for, three against (the United States, Israel, and Palau), and two abstentions (Micronesia and Marshall Islands).
