Cuban artist community group Korimakao, from western Cuba, is now rehearsing a play dedicated to historical revolutionary leader Fidel Castro for its premiere on April 18 at a special gala.

Korimakao retook the idea from a theatrical piece they staged for Fidel's 90th birthday on August 2016. The work covers important passages of the leader's childhood, adolescence and youth.

Songs written by prominent troubadour singers and songwriters such as Silvio Rodriguez and Pablo Milanes will be a part of this show, starting from musical arrangements by Korimakao members themselves.

Created in 1992, Korimakao is based on the south of Matanzas Province, 200 kilometers southeast of the Cuban capital.

The project is part of the program of cultural development of Cienaga de Zapata, which includes theatre, dance, music and fine arts, and the massive participation of the population and workplaces of the region.

The official headquarters is in the town of Palpite in the aforementioned municipality, site of the largest and best conserved wetland in the Caribbean.
