Cuba denounced today at the UN the full application of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, mainly the fines on entities doing business with Havana.
The Cuban Permanent Mission at the United Nations spread a press release today, where it reflects on one of the recent extraterritorial actions in the financial field carried out by the siege enacted for over half a century.
It is about the ban imposed on the Bank of Ireland to make money transfers of Irish citizens to persons living in Cuba, due to the commercial ties of that entity with US banks.
The measure is applied despite Ireland nor the European Union have imposed restrictions to links with Cuba and the many resolutions of the General Assembly of the UN condemning the blockade, reminded the Caribbean nations representation.
Since 1992, the main organ of the UN has expressed its rejection to the unilateral sanction, a stand that last year was supported by 188 of its 193 member nations.
The Permanent Mission alerted in its note that the US blockade has as fundamental objective to cause damages and suffering to the Cuban people, a policy described as illegal and contrary to International Law.
