Cuba repeated here its willingness to continue medical collaboration in the countries affected by the Ébola, an epidemic that finished with the life of thousands of people, adds today a press release.
The attitude with which the island answered to the call of the World Health Organization (WHO) to face the epidemic, is part of the history of solidarity of the Caribbean nation with Africa, underlined the first vice-minister of Public health, José Ángel Portal.
On having got involved in a Meeting of the International Medical Teams in answer to the Ébola, in which is headed by the Cuban delegation, Portal emphasized the importance of incorporating the experiences acquired to the procedures to face this kind of emergencies.
During his speech he also honored the memory of cooperatve doctors Jorge Juan Guerra Rodríguez and Reinaldo Villafranca Antigua, members of the Cuban contingent in western Africa, who died by other conditions during the fulfillment of their mission.
The same way, he praised the attitude of the Cuban doctor Félix Báez Sarria, who returned to Sierra Leona after having survived the ébola infection.
Regarding the meeting, which concludes this Thursday, he thought that it is an important step to keep on uniting wills and to encourage the cooperation, effort in which the governing role of the WHO has been essential.
