Cuba Rejects Honduran Polls in Estoril Summit

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez called Monday at the 19th Ibero-American Summit for a statement to reject Honduran elections and alerted to a threat for Latin America of the US military doctrine.
"A dictatorship has been started in Honduras, through a military coup, with the US instigation and support," the Cuban diplomatic head stated.
"To recognize the spurious government that these illegitimate elections emerge will betray principles of peace, democracy and justice," Rodriguez said.
"We have a deep conviction that the Honduran people, with their struggle, will have the last word," stressed Rodriguez at the plenary session of the 19th Ibero-American Summit.
The Cuban foreign minister stated in his speech that the US government threats Latin American peoples with the development of an aggressive military doctrine, the reactivation of the Fourth Fleet, and the establishment of military bases.
"The aim is domination and interference, to get the US military power closer to the rich sources of raw materials and energy resources the region has," the island's diplomat noted.
"This is an offense to Our America's dignity and a threat to peace, stability and sovereignty. It not only points against Venezuela, which has all the right to defend itself but also against all regional States," Rodriguez said.
"America Latina and the Caribbean should be territories free of foreign military stations and terrorism," the diplomatic head said.
"Cuba, a country of which has suffered itself the persistent US hostility, demands the closure of the jail located in the illegal naval base in Guantanamo, Cuba, the field of torture created there, and the return of the territory that seizes our country," he stated.
"Cuba, which has been victim of such scourge from the United States for 50 years, also demands the release of five Cuban anti-terrorist fighters unfairly imprisoned in that northern country, for trying to thwart with their action that terrorism against their homeland claims new Cuban and US lives," Rodriguez stressed.
"America Latina and the Caribbean also called for their peoples' right to live in peace and build a future of justice, the innovation and knowledge of which are source of virtue and not an instrument of war," the foreign minister pointed out.
"Let's hope that our joint meditation about those issues and our assessment of the reality in which we live contribute to the balanced and sustainable development of our peoples, to facilitate knowledge, science, technology and innovation, and defend the right to peace and justice," Rodriguez concluded.
