Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon met with the Russian Duma (Parliament) Vice President Ivan Ivanovich Mielnikov, who is on a one-week visit here to foster links.
According to a report published by Granma newspaper on Saturday, the meeting went on under an atmosphere of frankness and cordiality, in the framework of the excellent relations of friendship between both legislative bodies.
Mielnikov's visit coincides with Havana hosting its International Trade Fair in which Russia and Cuba renewed a far reaching agreement for the exploration of oil and natural gas.
The agenda of the visitor, who is also first vice president of the Communist Party Central Committee of the Russian Federation, included meetings with Cuban leader as Basic Industry Minister Yadira Garcia.
Also in his agenda, Mielnikov has scheduled visits to sites of historic and social interest, like the famous Varadero beach resort, over 87 miles from Havana.
Mielnikov and the Cuban delegation exchanged on the main issues of the cooperation between the two countries. The aim is to tighten ties, the repots says.
